RV Life Heat Safety in the Valley of the Sun

Heat Safety in the Valley of the Sun

We all know Phoenix is hot in the summer, but what I didn’t realize is that even a short amount of time in the extreme temperatures of Phoenix summers can be dangerous. In this heat, as little as 10-15 minutes can cause heat exhaustion and other health issues for pets and people.

If you will be on-site during Inspection Day at a location in the Phoenix Valley, please be prepared for these triple digit days! It’s important to bring protection against the sun and plenty of water. It’s also important to take plenty of breaks indoors and to only spend intermittent time outdoors in the heat.

This city of Phoenix has several helpful tips on the following webpage to help you stay safe in the valley:

UPDATE 2020: It’s that time of year again in the Phoenix Valley when it gets HOT. This year, we broke 100 degrees before May! As someone who’s always been sensitive to the heat, I have to be careful about how quickly I work in this heat and take more breaks.

During an inspection, I take the time to cool off in the AC of my truck while I compile data collected inspecting the RV. Not only do I carry a drink cooler full of ice water, but coolers with gatorade and fruit. I use cooling towels around my neck and swear by Columbia’s long sleeve fishing shirts for men, lol!

Please stay safe in the heat, folks, and take way more breaks than you think you need.
